THE STORY BEHIND RHUMAA

While Rhumaa as a brand stopped their operations at the beginning of 2020, their message has lived on through the garments they've created and via platforms such as Palanta.

Rhumaa designs are bright, vibrant, and simply transport you to another world. All because the brand has become one with art. Founder Daniel Beernink is entirely in love with South Africa's history and its creators' work.

Every collection is inspired and made in collaboration with an artist. Some tell a personal story, others share hopes, dreams and nearly all, share it with emotion to impact the lives of others in positive ways. African artists tell us their stories through the brand’s collections. Their visions are expressed through print, design, color, and high-quality sustainable fabrics. The prints convey dreams, desires, and hopes. Each is a uniquely characterful narrator of the story of the artist and a powerful tool for making positive changes in others' lives.

You'll find treasures among the timeless and sophisticated pieces because the creators always add a fresh twist. The patterns and colors are inimitable and will lift your mood all day long.

„We are all connected; to each other, to the community, to nature ourselves and what we wear.” Rhumaa

NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT SUSTAINABILITY

The brand has taken sustainability to heart and tried to make as much of a real impact as possible.

This included the use of sustainable materials, their commitment to recycling, and fair and transparent processes with their employees and partners.

THE SOURCE

The brand's sources - whether it's labor or materials - were based on fair principles. Their employees were paid a decent wage and worked in decent conditions.

The origin of the fibers was a priority. They tracked and regularly checked the path from the farm through dyeing to the finished fabric. They only selected partners that meet European environmental standards that prevent harmful chemicals from being used. These include GOTS and OEKO-TEX® 100 certification. All their products are also REACH compliant and AZO-free, using materials that are good for the skin and healthy for the environment.

No more talking, let’s now experience the Rhumaa adventure and enjoy their creations with PALANTA.

Sézane

Posted by Martina Novakova on

The idea behind Sézane is simple: create high-quality, perfectly-cut pieces that can be worn forever.

Above all, they firmly believe that the pieces we buy today should become the vintage of tomorrow. To achieve this ideal, Sézane creates timeless pieces that will outlive fleeting trends and suit almost every season, made from eco-friendly and innovative materials by people Sézane respects.

Humble beginnings

Funnily enough, the story of Sézane begins with a forgotten suitcase and a love of vintage. Upon discovering an abandoned collection of vintage clothing, Morgane Sézalory began making slight adjustments to the pieces and selling her finds online under the name ‘Les Composantes’. Her monthly drops, or rendez-vous, became an anticipated event in France. By 2013, Morgane realized she had found her calling: she began supplementing her vintage pieces with her own designs & the brand Sézane was born.

“Sézane is first and foremost a story of life; a life that takes shape, develops and renews... a story of women and men for whom life revolves around meaning: my story, your story and the story of everyone who contributes to it. To keep raising the bar and write a never-ending story with you – how else?” - Morgane Sézalory

 Sézane fabric of values

Not many brands can say their humble beginnings were sprung out of circular endeavours, and such commitments are woven into the Sézane fabric of values. The label’s beautiful creations with a Parisian touch are made to stand the test of time, using high-quality, eco-friendly and innovative materials.

In 2021, they also achieved B Corp certification, codifying their status as a visionary brand that follows a production model which respects the planet and its people. From the choice of production methods, raw materials and working conditions, to their environmental footprint and engagement in the community, B-Corp is the stringent, independent validation of what Sézane stands for: its essence.

On top of that, ¾ of the materials in the current collections are eco-friendly. Plus, their pieces are certified by 5 of the industry's most reliable certifications: GOTS, Oeko-Tex, FSC, RWS and RMS - way above the industry standards.

Putting actions before words: DEMAIN

Guided by the desire to put actions before words, Sézane has also created their philanthropic program DEMAIN - which means tomorrow in French. Always on the 21st of every month, Sézane donates 10% of sales and 100% of the proceeds from dedicated solidarity pieces in their collection to this program or other non-profit partners, such as Day for Change in the Netherlands. Since 2018, Sézane has also raised over 4.5 million euros to support access to education and equal opportunities for children worldwide.

Progress over perfection

While we fully acknowledge there are still several steps that Sézane as a fashion brand needs to take to become a truly sustainable fashion label, we decided to extend our Palanta collection with their pieces because of the impeccable quality and longevity of these unique garments - while propelling Sézane to become more sustainable by renting as well!

Roses & Lilies

Posted by Eniko Sara Toth on

Feminine shapes and romantic colours.

Roses & Lilies has stepped into the sustainable fashion world to make the fashion industry enjoyable for everyone. For the people who wear the clothes as well as for the people who make the clothes.

With elegance and comfort they create items for you to wear with pride. There’s no guilt, everyone and everything is treated in the nicest way possible. By using only sustainable & organic materials and producing in The Netherlands, they try to do the least harm to the environment. By producing in their own country Roses & Lilies can guarrantee the garment workers are working safe conditions and get paid a living wage. Also they don’t use any fabrics that are made of/with animals. So cruelty free as well!

Are you joining our mission to create a more enjoyable fashion world for everyone?

About the founder

After graduating (from a study that had nothing to do with fashion) I was figuring out what I wanted to do and then an old passion came back in my mind: fashion! I’ve always had a thing with fashion and I dreamed of owning my own label.

Since I had no background in fashion, I started doing research into the fashion industry. When doing my research my enthusiasm for the fashion industry became less and less. That was because I was learning about all the parts of the chain that were so polluting, the garment workers not working in safe conditions and not getting paid a living wage. It shook me and made me realize that I have to do better!

So that’s what I’m doing now with Roses & Lilies. Creating a fashion industry that’s enjoyable for everyone and everything.

- Susan, founder of Roses & Lilies
