How to find yourself again

As everything seems to go back to normal while unprecedented news is still coming your way, let’s use this awakening season to find yourself again, who you have become and who you want to be going forward.

Why does it matter?

After what has happened and still happening around us, we might feel that we have lost the connection with ourselves. Yet, to be able to help others, we need to take care of ourselves first.

What can you do to find yourself again?

A great way to see where you are now is to create a timeline of your life so far. List all of your significant moments and life events, both positive and negative. Write down your past achievements and consider what felt good about them and what resulted from them. For your regrets, consider what you gained from the experiences.

To see where you are heading, write down all your goals and dreams. Be specific where you can, but also mention your general wishes, like wanting to feel more accomplished. Then try to break them down into smaller parts.  Be realistic about what you can do today, but be as bold as possible about what you can be tomorrow.

Getting in the habit of journaling can also help. This way, you can reflect on the things that happened to you and see what makes you feel good and connected to yourself daily. After journaling, ask yourself questions like: What is something I could do today that will make me feel accomplished? What is something I can do today that will benefit me tomorrow?

Daily habits to introduce to your routine

Rome was not built in one day, so neither can your dreams or vision. Yet, every day can get you closer to the goals you’ve envisioned and written down. To truly seize every day, consider introducing these daily habits to your routine:

  • Reduce your screen time
  • Listen to what your body needs
  • Spend more time outside
  • Let everything breathe: practice taking deep breaths, let your face and nails breathe as well.
  • Break down your endless list of chores and work projects into small steps
  • Give yourself some quiet time
  • Create space to connect with yourself and your desires

No matter where you are at this very second, finding yourself is a beautiful process of getting to know yourself, embracing it, and becoming a better version of yourself every day. Enjoy this adventurous journey, and don’t forget to have fun.
