SZVAKA Studio in The Hague is the first ceramic workshop where you not only will create beautiful objects but will also experience real mindfulness.
All of us know the feeling when after many mental working hours, calls, e-mails, and meetings there is no physical manifestation… This is the reason why the moment is very special when the first time you take your own handmade mug in your hands. Maybe it won’t be a perfect piece but it is your creation. This memorable feeling and your mug will accompany you for a lifetime.
Focus on building energy and reducing stress: Working with clay is about being in the moment, connect with the material and you forget all of the loud voices and problems in your head. Be part of the ‘Flow’-experience, and how your mind becomes peaceful and focused at the same time.
Create mugs, smaller vases/ plates/ planters/ sculptures/bowls, different holders like jewelry/soap/phone/ etc. Enjoy mindfulness and meet like-minded people.
One workshop includes two occasions on two different days. One occasion lasts 2.5 hours.
On the first occasion, Anna will guide you through the ‘pinching’ process of making your objects, including showing you some ideas for texturing your clay and share some useful tips and tricks. ‘Pinching’ is one of the oldest ways to create ceramics. This method allows the beginners to learn the first steps to work with clay and provide experimental possibilities for those ones who already have experience with pottery.
After the first session, you are ready with your pieces and leave them in the studio to dry at least one week and after Anna will fire them.
On the second occasion, you will glaze the objects. Anna will show different glazing techniques and you can try to decorate for example with different patterns.
After the workshop, the objects will be fired again and you can make an appointment to collect your pieces at the studio.
During the workshop, there is a possibility to enjoy your coffee or tea on the roof terrace surrounded by birds chirping.
